Early Mornings, Bold Beginnings: How Early Bird Took Flight

The Early Bird concept was born in 2016 when Jamie Burrow and Andrew Meirer, former college roommates with experience in the bar and restaurant industry, teamed up to pursue a new venture. Both had young families and, while they wanted to re-enter the hospitality industry, they were no longer interested in the late-night shifts typical of the business. They envisioned a breakfast, lunch, and brunch concept that allowed them to focus on mornings and early afternoons, creating Early Bird.

Inspired by their love of travel and family-friendly dining, Jamie and Andrew noticed that breakfast was often an easier, more affordable option while on vacation. However, they also wanted to enjoy adult beverages during breakfast. Thus, Early Bird was designed to be a modern take on the classic diner, offering diner staples like chicken fried steak and chicken and waffles, but with creative twists such as cinnamon roll pancakes, hash holes, and breakfast pot pies.

After identifying a gap in the Omaha market for a strong brunch concept, they opened the first Early Bird location in late 2017 in the Blackstone Neighborhood. This successful venture fueled their ambition to grow the brand locally, regionally, and eventually nationally, establishing Early Bird as a scalable and unique dining experience.

Andrew Meier has served as our co-owner since January 2017. Since November 2018, Andrew has also been an owner of Early Bird, LLC in Omaha, NE. Since June 2008, Andrew has also been an owner of Mid Neb. Coin-Op, Inc. in Grand Island, NE.

President – Daniel Kavan

Daniel Kavan

Daniel Kavan has served as our President since June 2024. From August 2023 to May 2024, Daniel served as our Vice President. Since May 2023, Daniel has also served as a consultant and owner of Kavan Management Company in Omaha, NE. From November 2008 to April 2023, Daniel was the President and Chief Operating Officer of Cutchall Management Company in Omaha, NE.

Trisha Goode

Trisha Goode has served as our Franchise Director since August 2023. Since May 2021, Trisha has been an owner of T&K Ventures, LLC in West Des Moines, IA which owns and operates a company owned Early Bird Restaurant. Since August 2023, Trisha has been a partner in T&K Ventures II, LLC in Ankeny, IA which owns and operates a company owned Early Bird Restaurant. Since 2007, Trisha has been the owner of Therapy Investments in Des Moines, IA.

Director of Marketing – Codie Burrow

Codie Burrow

Codie Burrow has served as our Director of Marketing since January 2017 Since November 2018, Codie has served as the Director of Marketing for T&K Ventures, LLC in West Des Moines, IA, and for T&K Ventures II, LLC in Ankeny, IA which operates company owned Early Bird Restaurants.

Food, Beverage & Operations Director

Kendall Owen

Kendall Owen has served as our Food/Beverage/Operations Director since August 2023 Since April 2023, Kendall has been a partner in T&K Ventures II, LLC in Ankeny, IA which owns and operates a company owned Early Bird Restaurant. Since November 2000, Kendall has been a partner in T&K Ventures, LLC in West Des Moines, IA which owns and operates a company owned Early Bird Restaurant. From November 2017 to April 2021, Kendall was a franchise business consultant with Massage Heights throughout the United States. From January 2019 to April 2020, Kendall served as a General Manager for Jethro’s BBQ in West Des Moines, IA.

Zach Rouzee

Zach Rouzee joined Early Bird in June 2022 and has been helping the team grow ever since. In July 2024, he stepped into the role of Chief Financial Officer, overseeing all Nebraska and Iowa locations. Zach enjoys finding smart, practical ways to keep the business strong and set it up for long-term success.

District Manager– Tim Emerson

Tim Emerson

Tim Emerson brings 16 years of service experience to our team. He began as a bartender at our Shadow Lake location, then became General Manager at Regency, where he honed his leadership skills. Tim successfully opened our Lincoln location and now serves as Area Manager, supporting the launch of new corporate stores. His commitment to excellence is a key asset to our operations.

Regional Manager – Julia Deane

Julia Deane

Julia Deane brings 12 years of experience to our team. She started with our company as the General Manager of our Shadow Lake location in 2021. From August of 2023 to September of 2024 she served as our District Manager. As of October of 2024 she is currently serving as our Regional Manager. She brings a strong background in operational management, team development, and guest experience. She takes pride in creating a positive culture where team members are empowered, supported, and aligned with company goals.
